In 2010, Actors' Repertory Theatre of Simi, the Simi Valley Cultural Association and the Simi Valley Unified School District entered into a cooperative venture that would allow us to transform a 30 year-old, 3000 square foot building on the site that was once Belwood Elementary School into a 3 classroom facility that would become ARTS Performance Academy. After 22 years of being "Gypsies", teaching classes, workshops and summer programs in storefronts, multi-purpose rooms of local elementary schools and the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, ARTS would finally have a permanent home that would serve the entire community.
Toward the latter part of 2011 the administrative staff of the Simi Valley Town Center mall, as part of their community relationship development plan, made a generous offer to donate a 4,000 square foot space that would serve as ARTS Performance Academy Annex during our capital campaign.
In January 2012, APA Annex at the Simi Valley Town Center mall opeedn its doors, offering classes and workshops to ages 3 mos. through adult, taught by industry professionals. We hope that the future will bring communities together, sharing a common belief that every human being has the right of artistic expression that needs to be explored, nurtured, celebrated and shared.
